How to borrow materials and equipment from the Library and Learning Commons, as well as other libraries.

Loan Periods and Fines

Loan Information and Fines

  • Maximum Loan Limit: 10 items in any combination.
  • Overdue Fines: Calculated per item, per hour.

Renewing Items

Overdue and Lost Items

  • Borrowers are responsible for returning overdue items.
  • Items not returned are considered lost. The full replacement cost will be added to the borrower's financial record.

Fines

  • Equipment: $2.00 per hour, per item.
  • Course Reserves: $0.50 per hour, per item.

Responsibility for Lost, Stolen, or Damaged Materials

  • Borrowers are responsible for the full replacement cost of any lost, stolen, or damaged library materials, including equipment.

Paying Fines

Online payments are available anytime and anywhere. You'll need your student number and a valid Visa, Visa Debit, MasterCard, Debit MasterCard, or American Express credit card.

How to Make a Payment

  1. Start the Payment Process:
    Click the "Pay Now" button above to begin.

  2. Enter Your Information:

    • Provide your name and student number.
    • Select "Fines/Lost Item Charge" by typing "Yes" in the appropriate field.
    • Enter the payment amount. If it's different from the full amount, input the specific amount and proceed.

    Note: If your outstanding balance exceeds $10.00, certain services may be restricted.

  3. Complete the Billing Information:

    • Verify the payment amount.
    • Fill in the Billing Address and Payment Information fields.
    • Click "Submit Payment."
  4. Confirmation:
    After successful payment, you'll receive a confirmation email with a Payment Receipt from Niagara College via no-reply@bambora.com.

Alternative Payment Options

If you don't have a credit card, notify the library staff. They can add the charge to your student's account at the college level. You can pay at the Student Accounts Office.

Other Methods:

  • Canadian Bank Account:
    Pay via online or telephone banking (bill payment), or in person at a bank or financial institution.

    • Set up bill payment with Niagara College or Niagara College Tuition.
    • Do not select Niagara College Welland or Niagara College NOTL (used by residences).
    • Use your 7-digit Niagara College student ID as the account number.
    • Allow 1 to 3 business days for the payment to process.

Tips for Smooth Payment Processing

  1. Make sure your address matches the one on file at Niagara College.
  2. Type your address on one line.
  3. Select the correct payment field.
  4. Use a non-expired credit card.
  5. Double-check all entered details (digits, expiry date, CVV).

Borrowing Materials from the Library

The Libraries offer a wide variety of materials for you to borrow. All you need is your student or staff card and a visit to the Library desk. 

You can sign out books, fiction, DVDs, cameras, and more!

Place Requests

Placing Requests on Items

Requests can be made on items in the catalogue that are owned by Libraries and Learning Commons. Please follow these instructions to place a request.

  • If an item is not found in the catalogue or is blocked from being put on hold, the library may be able to obtain it from another library via inter-library loan. To submit a request, click here.

Borrow Equipment

Libraries and Learning Commons offer a variety of Multimedia Equipment for loan to faculty, staff and students.

Some of the Multimedia Equipment available for loan include:

  • LCD / LED projectors
  • Digital Cameras – DSLR
  • Video Cameras
  • Digital Voice Recorders
  • Wireless Presentation Clicker
  • Go Pro Cameras and accessories
  • Tripods
  • Portable Screens
  • Cables, charge cords, speakers, and other various adapters
  • DPS Kits (ECE Students, Welland Campus)
  • iPad class set (faculty only)

While we have lots of equipment to offer, we ask that you book in advance of the date and time you need the equipment, to avoid potential disappointment.

Borrow from Ontario Colleges

Interlibrary Loan for Niagara College Staff and Students

Niagara College Libraries are happy to request materials on your behalf from other Ontario College Libraries. To get started, simply fill out an Interlibrary Loan Request Form.

Important Information:

  • Items may take at least two weeks to arrive at your College Library. You will be notified by email when the requested items arrive.
  • Only circulating materials, as defined by the lending library, may be borrowed.
  • Borrowers are responsible for reading and abiding by the Direct Borrowing Agreements with Ontario Colleges and must have a current Niagara College student or staff ID card.

Borrow from Brock University

​Libraries and Learning Commons and Brock University Libraries

There is a reciprocal borrowing agreement in place for only books.

For Niagara College Students and Staff: 

  • Niagara College students must register in person at Brock and present their student card with photo ID.
  • Borrow a maximum of 15 books, for a loan period of 2 weeks per book
  • Renew each item once for another two weeks
  • Pay 50 cents per item per day for an overdue book.
  • Return the book in-person to Brock

Niagara College students also have electronic access to Brock University's unrestricted databases, available at Open Access Databases

For Brock University Students and Staff:

Brock faculty, staff, and students are entitled to borrowing privileges at Niagara College under the following conditions:

  • users must register in-person and present a Brock student or staff card along with an additional piece of photo ID.
  • users must re-register on a yearly basis in order to make sure contact information is current.
  • Borrow a maximum of 5 books, for a loan period of 3 weeks per book
  • Renew each item once for another three weeks
  • Return the book in-person to either of the campus libraries
