How to borrow materials and equipment from the NC Libraries, as well as other libraries.

Borrow from ncLibraries

The Libraries have a wide variety of materials for you to sign out. All you need is your student or staff card and a visit to the Library desk to borrow items.

You can sign out books, fiction, DVDs, cameras, and more!

Borrowing privileges vary whether you are a full-time student, faculty / staff member, alumni or community user.

 

Library Account Login

To login into your library account please use the following link: Library Account. Please note that you will need your student number and PIN to sign into your library account. Your PIN is your month and day of birth. For example, if your birthday is July 17 your PIN would be 0717. If you have issues signing into your library account, please contact the library.

Place Hold

Holds can be placed on items in the catalogue that are owned by ncLibraries or LiNC.

Some items, such as reserves and equipment, cannot be placed on hold. The system will indicate whether a hold was successfully placed on an item or not.

If you would like to book equipment in advance, we ask that you request the date and time you need the equipment by filling out the appropriate form:

NOTE: If you are looking for an item not found in the catalogue or an item that is blocked from being put on hold, the library may be able to obtain the item from another library via inter-library loan. To submit a request, click here.

Borrow Equipment

ncLibraries offer a variety of multimedia equipment for loan to faculty, staff and students.

Equipment

Some of the multimedia equipment available for loan include:

  • LCD projectors
  • Digital Cameras – DSLR
  • Video Cameras
  • Digital Voice Recorders
  • Wireless Presentation Clicker
  • Go Pro Cameras
  • Tripods
  • Portable Screens
  • Cables, Cords, Speakers, and other computer periphery
  • iPad class set (faculty only)

While we do have lots of equipment to offer, we do ask that you book in advance of the date and time you need the equipment, to avoid potential disappointment.

Borrow from Public Libraries

The Libraries in Niagara Cooperative (LiNC)

You can use your Niagara College ID card to borrow items from some of our local public libraries or have items from these libraries shipped to Niagara College by placing a hold.

Accessing eBooks

eBooks from all ncLibraries' collection can be read online or downloaded for offline reading. Learn more about our eBook collection in our Get Started guide. 

To download books from EBSCOhost or ProQuest eBook Central, you will need to:

  1. Make an account. Click the following link to set-up an account for ProQuest eBook Central or EBSCOhost.
  2. Depending on the type of device you are using,download Adobe Digital Editions for laptops and PCs and Bluefire Reader for Android and iOS. You can also use the EBSCO eBook app for the EBSCOhost collection on your device.
  3. Download the eBook, pick a loan period (varies), open eBook in chosen platform.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

For library staff from other colleges, institutions, and universities that wish to borrow material from ncLibraries please use the forms below. Niagara College students, faculty, and staff that wish to borrow material as inter-library loans (ILL) please use the "Colleges or Institutions" form:

Borrow from Brock University

ncLibraries and Brock University Libraries

As of Fall 2008, there is a reciprocal borrowing agreement in place for books only.

For Niagara College Students and Staff: 

  • Niagara College students must register in person at Brock and present their student card with photo ID.
  • Borrow a maximum of 15 books, for a loan period of 2 weeks per book
  • Renew each item once for another two weeks
  • Pay 50 cents per item per day for an overdue book.
  • Return the book in-person to Brock

Niagara College students also have electronic access to Brock University's unrestricted databases, available at Open Access Databases

For Brock University Students and Staff:
Brock faculty/staff/students are entitled to borrowing privileges at Niagara College under the following conditions:

  • users must register in-person and present a Brock student or staff card along with an additional piece of  photo ID.
  • users must re-register on a yearly basis in order to make sure contact information is current.
  • Borrow a maximum of 5 books, for a loan period of 2 weeks per book
  • Renew each item once for another two weeks
  • Pay 25 cents/day for an overdue book.
  • Return the book in-person to either of the Campus Libraries
