The Living Library Event series at ncLibraries & Learning Commons is inspired by the Human Library, typically day long events where readers "borrow" human books for short one-on-one conversations. In doing so, a dialogue is initiated between people whose paths might not normally cross. It was developed to challenge stigmatization or discrimination because of individual lifestyle, diagnosis, belief, disability, social status, ethnic origin, etc. The library analogy lends itself to human beings serving as open books to share their experiences firsthand.
The aim of our speaker series is to make these conversations more widely accessible to Niagara College and our communities. In learning about other people and their experiences we challenge our own views and ideas, creating a vibrant and inclusive society.
