User Experience (UX)

Noise: Library Study

The UX Team (in 2019) committee on noise in library spaces involved several other library staff to assess, at both campus libraries, noise levels and noise procedures / policies for how to manage noise levels in library spaces. See documents below for details.

Study and Work Space Guidelines

Campus libraries are places for learning. People need quiet places to learn and work as well as space for group learning and collaboration. Libraries are centres for teaching, where library staff instruct individuals and groups in the use of information resources and materials. To learn more about the Libraries and Learning Commons' expectations for appropriate studying behaviour, read our guidelines below:

At both campus libraries, we follow similar expected Study and Workspace guidelines:

  • Respect others around you
  • Quiet conversation is permitted
  • Use headphones
  • Take phone calls outside of the library
  • Snacks and lidded drinks are fine. Please clean up after yourself
  • Please walk
  • Ensure your personal belongings are attended to at all times
  • Carrels are for independent work only

The library space is intended for study and quiet independent work. You may be asked to leave the library if these guidelines are not followed.
