User Experience (UX)

User Experience (UX) Team Charter

Project Scope and Definition

Prepared by:

Geoff Brown & Chris Bocchinfuso
Team Objectives:

1) To undertake discrete, short-term projects.

Identified by the UX team members or upon request of other library project teams or committees.

2) To build UX capacity at NC Libraries.

a) Maintain an accessible UX LibGuide

b) On-going sharing of UX strategies and best practices

Cost: To be determined based on requirements of each project.
Project Background:

User Experience Design (UXD) can be summarized as:

  • Positioning the user as a central concern in the design process
  • Identifying the aspects of the design that are important to the target user group
  • Developing the design interactively and inviting users' participation
  • Collecting evidence of user-specific factors to assess a design.
Scope Includes: UX can be applied to the design of library print materials, signage, customer service, facilities, reference workflows, programs, collection, services, and virtual presence.
Scope Excludes: Ongoing assessment and revision is critical in meeting user expectations. This is not the responsibility of the UX team, although we will draft a maintenance plan for the appropriate parties.
Constraints: In many cases, the library has limited control over the user interface since we do not own it outright. Whenever appropriate, we will need to identify these limitations to communicate fair expectations of success.
